ABOUT US

Awatea Farms started up in 1989 when we purchased a 12 acre property south of Pukekohe South Auckland.

My mother & I both had interest in horses from a young age & hence Awatea Farms was born.

Mum is currently a National Showjumping Judge & Technical Delegate for eventing. Mum still rides & hunts & has a lovely welsh cob x TB mare called Nelly.

I followed my mum around as a kid & grew the love of horses as well from a young age & did my pony club days as well as competed to Grand Prix level in showjumping with ponies & hacks as well as did Intermediate level Horse Trials.

We bred from my showjumping pony & there became the love for the stallion side I have become well known for, but after having enough of the public scene myself we sold up our stallions back in 2011 & I now just concentrate on AI Collections & Stallion Handling to help other owners out. I also ride but only for pleasure now on a very cool horse called Kraka who was bred by a great family friend Rachael Hills of Pintosa Performance Horses.

Later on my 4 children also took part in horse activities of some sort with the 3 youngest doing very well in Kidz Kartz.
Taitlyn did 11 years in the sport & reached the highest levels you could winning the 2012 NZ Cup on her pony Harry & also representing NZ in Australia in the Mini Trot Interdominions on borrowed ponies in 2013.

My two daughters both still have interest in horses Jaeden now at univesity in Christchurch, still has a pleasure riding buddy called Hugo & Taitlyn my youngest is very hooked on harness horses thanks to the Kidz Kartz & her success in that sport so has just started towards driving the big race horses.

We have also done our share of buying & preparing horses & ponies for sales for national & overseas markets in the past mainly jumpers & riding school type horses as well as race ponies.

And we had a very successful go at breeding breeding a horse that went National champion inhand & many other successes with inhand showing. We have slowed down in that side but Taitlyn has started her own breeding experimenting now so support her in this & is in the process of buying her first stallion.

Awatea Farms will return to the breeding market in the 2015-16 season with a son of Awatea Splashback's now coming of age & people asking us if he will stand to the public. He will highly likely stand this coming season to a few outside mares but more so we want to get him out competiting undersaddle is our biggest plan with him. He is a coloured Grandson of our very popular black & white stallion BS Kahurangi whose family lines are still seen doing extremely well today in the showing scene.
